Program Name: Environmental Science and Engineering
Approval Time: 2010
Basic Overview: Nanchang University is a multidisciplinary comprehensive university characterized by serving local economic development. For years, with the university’s strong support, relying on the national "211 Project" key discipline of Ecological Resources, the Key Laboratory of Poyang Lake Environment and Resource Utilization (Ministry of Education), the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Poyang Lake Comprehensive Management and Resource Development, the provincial key discipline of Environmental Engineering, the doctoral program in Environmental Engineering, the postdoctoral research station in Environmental Engineering, and the first-class discipline master’s program in Environmental Science and Engineering, this first-class discipline has achieved a series of important scientific and technological outcomes, cultivated a large number of outstanding talents, and built a stable and innovative teaching and research team. It has also established close cooperative and exchange ties with the international academic community.
The discipline has a faculty consisting of 26 professors, 16 associate professors, and 30 doctoral degree holders. Over the past five years, it has undertaken 49 national, provincial and ministerial-level research projects, including National Science and Technology Support Program projects, National Science and Technology Major Projects for Water Pollution Control and Treatment, and international scientific and technological cooperation projects, with a total funding of nearly 50 million yuan, among which the vertical research funding accounts for more than 12 million yuan. A total of over 800 related academic papers have been published, 98 of which are indexed by SCI and EI. The discipline has also won more than ten provincial and ministerial-level awards.
In October 2007, it hosted the 3rd UNESCO International Training Course on Agricultural Water Pollution and Environmental Protection. In April 2009, it organized the 6th International Symposium on Watershed Management and Freshwater Lake Protection and Development & the 1st International Symposium on Poyang Lake Watershed Sustainable Development, which generated significant repercussions in the international academic community. In November 2009, it co-hosted the 13th World Lake Conference and was awarded the Contribution Award. These achievements demonstrate that the discipline has gained recognition from the international academic community in the fields of lake and environmental studies.
