Algal Innovation Engineering Research Center, Nanchang University

Microalgae feature high photosynthetic efficiency, synthesize a range of products while fixing CO₂, and do not compete with crops for arable land, thus showing great potential to play an important role in green and sustainable negative-carbon pathways and the bioeconomy.

With the mission of “Advancing Carbon Neutrality and Green Development via Microalgal Biotechnology”, the platform is rooted in the major needs of national and Jiangxi provincial green, low-carbon and high-quality development. It focuses on the fields of microalgal photosynthetic carbon fixation, metabolic regulation, synthetic biology, waste gas and wastewater treatment, and resource utilization, striving to build a first-class domestic and internationally advanced algae engineering technology research platform. It supports the achievement of the national “dual-carbon” strategic goals, the 14th Five-Year Plan for Bioeconomy Development, the construction of ecological civilization and bio-industry in Jiangxi Province, as well as the development of Nanchang University’s Double First-Class discipline in basin carbon neutrality.

Currently, the center has a research team consisting of 2 professors, 1 associate professor, 1 associate researcher, 3 distinguished researchers and 1 lecturer, including 1 national-level talent, 2 provincial-level talents and 3 university-level talents.
