Research Overview
Buildings serve as the physical carriers and service providers of human production and consumption activities. Their accumulation and renewal are among the outcomes and explicit characteristics of urbanization.Urban building systems exchange materials and energy with the external environment at multiple scales. The construction and demolition of buildings drive the migration and transformation of building material resources on the Earth’s surface, exerting direct or indirect impacts on the ecological environment.Concerns over the resource and environmental pressures generated by such interactions have made this a hot topic in the field of urban carbon neutrality research. Therefore, systematically analyzing the processes and mechanisms of urban building metabolism, simulating and identifying the evolution laws of building flow-stock dynamics and their associated resource-environmental impacts, and exploring low-carbon and sustainable development pathways are critical to achieving the goals of the "Dual Carbon" strategic initiative.
