Excellent Student of the College of Resources and Environment | Jiang Wei

Jiang Wei, male, Han nationality, Probationary Member of the Communist Party of China, is an undergraduate student of Grade 2020 majoring in Environmental Engineering at the College of Resources and Environment, Nanchang University. He is also minoring in Finance. He once served as the Vice Chairman of the Student Union of Nanchang University and the Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the College of Resources and Environment. Since entering the university, he has adhered to the principle of balanced development of academic studies, scientific research and social practice. He has won many honors and awards, including the National Scholarship for the 2022-2023 Academic Year, twice the Special-class Scholarship, the First-class Scholarship, the title of "Model Three-Good Student" and "Model of Learning from Lei Feng". In total, he has obtained 4 national-level, 3 provincial-level and more than 40 university-level honors and awards. He received summer camp/pre-recommendation offers from multiple 985 universities, and was finally recommended for postgraduate study at Nanjing University with the first-place comprehensive ranking.

To showcase his growth experience, his personal deeds are written as follows.

I. Following the Party's Leadership, Being a College Student with Firm Beliefs

He is a student who is ideologically progressive and strictly demands himself in practice. In his freshman year, he submitted an application for Party membership to the Party organization, successfully passed the Party class training of the college, and became an active Party member. During the year as an active Party member, he always held himself to the standards of a Party member, regularly submitted ideological reports to the Party organization, earnestly studied the Party history, Party Constitution and Party regulations, and actively participated in various activities, achieving significant ideological progress. Later, he successfully passed the university-level Party class examination in June this year and became a Probationary Member of the Communist Party of China after the branch general meeting.

II. Acquiring Knowledge and Practicing Skills, Being a College Student with Solid Professional Competence

He has always adhered to the learning philosophy of prioritizing academic studies and consolidating professional skills. Over the past three years, he has been diligent and tireless in his studies with a serious attitude and clear goals. He is good at balancing time among various tasks, formulating detailed study plans every day and arranging time meticulously. Sometimes he even studies late into the night due to heavy workload. Therefore, while engaging in scientific research and student work, he has also achieved excellent academic results. Up to now, he has no failed courses, with 37 courses achieving a perfect grade point. His average grade point average (GPA) is 3.55, ranking 9th out of 85 students in GPA and 1st out of 85 in comprehensive ranking. While conscientiously completing the learning tasks of his major, he also minors in Finance as a second bachelor's degree. There are two main reasons for minoring in Finance: (1) his interest in Finance; (2) his aspiration to master financial knowledge and commit to solving the major contradiction between environmental protection and economic development, thereby contributing his own share to the cause of environmental protection of the motherland.

In terms of scientific research, he joined the Key Laboratory of Poyang Lake Environment and Resource Utilization of the Ministry of Education as soon as he entered the university in his freshman year, conducting scientific research under the guidance of Professor Zhang Ping, focusing on the research of environmental pollution control and resource utilization. He presided over 1 national-level College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program project and successfully concluded it with excellent results. He has co-published 2 SCI papers, applied for 1 utility model patent (as the first inventor) and 1 invention patent pending approval. Meanwhile, he has won many scientific and technological innovation awards, such as the National Excellence Award in the Beijing Enterprises Water Group Cup "Internet +" Eco-environment Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the Provincial Third Prize in the "Challenge Cup" Competition and the University Special-class Prize.

In the process of scientific research and study, he has gradually mastered the abilities of literature research, data processing and thesis writing, and identified his research interests. He has also mastered a number of analytical and characterization techniques (such as SEM, FT-IR, UV-Vis, XRD, EPR) and analysis software (such as Origin, Jade). At the same time, he has cultivated his scientific research thinking and gained a great deal.

III. Reflecting in Learning and Understanding in Practice, Being a College Student Integrating Knowledge with Action

He not only focuses on the study of professional and theoretical knowledge, but also understands the truth through learning and applies what he has learned and thought to practical life. As a student majoring in Environmental Engineering, he made full use of his summer vacation to work as an intern at the Law Enforcement Brigade of Wan'an Ecological Environment Bureau, carrying out grassroots environmental protection work with colleagues from the bureau. They went into industrial parks to do a good job in environmental management and supervision; carried out inspections of river entry sewage outlets along the Ganjiang River in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment; and attended special study sessions on environmental protection work hosted by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment on time at the unit.

In addition, he also went to Yichun and Xinyu with teachers from the college to carry out summer social practice activities themed "Environmental Protection, Green Development". The main contents include investigating local environmental pollution conditions, the construction of environmental protection infrastructure and conducting green environmental protection publicity. They visited government organs and actively communicated and learned from local competent departments of ecological environment; they went to primary and secondary schools and kindergartens to conduct surveys on environmental protection knowledge and publicize the concept of green environmental protection; they took to the streets to communicate with local residents to understand their green living conditions.

These social practice experiences have enabled him to gain a deeper understanding of the actual implementation of national environmental protection policies at the grassroots level, and also deepened his comprehension of professional learning.

IV. Enduring Hardships and Being Willing to Dedicate, Being an All-Round Developed College Student

Since his freshman year, he has joined the Student Union and carried out student union work adhering to the purpose of "serving students wholeheartedly". He has grown from a volunteer in the Office of the Student Union of the College of Resources and Environment to the person in charge of the office, and then to the Vice Chairman of the University Student Union and the Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the College of Resources and Environment. Along the way, he has experienced pressure and helplessness, but more importantly, he has gained the company of teachers and classmates and achieved self-improvement.

The year of his junior year was the most demanding and exhausting. During this year, he served as the Vice Chairman of the University Student Union and the Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the college at the same time. In the university student union, he attended every regular meeting on time and actively organized, planned and implemented various tasks. In the college student union, he was mainly responsible for three major parts of work: intelligent League building, activity review of the second classroom and Youth University Study. In the academic year of his junior year, he was involved in many large-scale activities held on campus, including the series of orientation activities, the series of National Day holiday activities, the campus singer competition, the campus group dance competition, the New Year's Day party and the campus marathon. In the college, he was also mainly responsible for League affairs, recruiting new League members, managing the intelligent League building system, supervising Youth University Study, carrying out themed education and many other tasks.

Looking back on his three years of work, he has participated in organizing more than 40 activities and completed hundreds of service tasks. Although the process was hard and he shed tears and sweat, he still felt it was worthwhile. In this process, he not only served his fellow students, but also greatly improved his comprehensive quality, such as his interpersonal communication skills, time management skills, organizational skills and stress relief skills.

Growing from an immature freshman to a responsible young person in the new era, the three-year experience has brought him a lot. He deeply understands that youth is the golden age of life, and what he has achieved so far is only the starting point of his life. He will continue to work hard, maintain a high degree of consistency with the Party Central Committee ideologically, and follow the direction pointed by the Party flag, which is also the direction of his study, life and work. In terms of learning, he will continue to be enthusiastic about professional knowledge learning, consolidate his professional foundation, and cultivate solid skills to establish himself in society and contribute to society.
