Fluid Machinery and Engineering

Postgraduate · Master’s Degree · Three-Year Duration

The discipline of Fluid Machinery and Engineering at Nanchang University obtained the right to confer master’s degrees in 2010. Affiliated to the first-level discipline of Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics (Discipline Code: 080704), it is an interdisciplinary and comprehensive discipline spanning machinery, fluid engineering, computational fluid dynamics, and other fields. The discipline mainly focuses on the research and design of fluid machinery and engineering equipment. By taking full advantage of its interdisciplinary strengths, it commits itself to the research of advanced fluid machinery and engineering equipment, so as to promote the leapfrog development of the fluid machinery and engineering industry.

The discipline has undertaken a series of research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation projects, the key landmark research achievement projects of Nanchang University under the national “211 Project” during the Tenth Five-Year Plan period, as well as scientific and technological research projects from the Ministry of Education, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China, and Jiangxi Province. Among its research outcomes, the project “Theory and Application of Polymer Multiphase Stratified Flow Molding” won the Third-Class Award of Jiangxi Provincial Natural Science in 2008, and the project “Research on Gas-Assisted Injection Molding Technology and Development of Gas-Assisted Injection Molding Machines” received the Third-Class Award of Jiangxi Provincial Science and Technology Progress in 2007. It also earned one Second-Class Award of Jiangxi Provincial Teaching Achievement. The research achievements related to the virtual prototype technology of bag-type dust collectors have been adopted by Tianjin Cement Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd., yielding remarkable economic and social benefits. The discipline has published more than 300 academic papers in prestigious domestic and international journals, such as Composites Science and Technology, Science in China Series E-Technological Sciences, Ozone Science & Engineering, Journal of Mechanical Engineering, and Journal of Chemical Industry and Engineering. Among these papers, nearly 40 have been indexed by SCI and EI. Additionally, it has published 3 academic monographs and obtained 4 authorized invention and utility model patents.

For years, the discipline has adhered to the principle of emphasizing both theoretical research and practical application. It closely aligns with the application requirements of industrial processes, especially national key research projects, and keeps track of international academic frontiers. It is dedicated to researching and developing various key technologies that possess high academic value and can solve technical challenges in fluid machinery and engineering. With the research goal of pursuing “advancement, high efficiency, reliability, and intelligence” in fluid machinery and engineering technologies, and building on nearly 30 years of teaching and research achievements, the discipline has gradually formed four distinctive and promising research directions:

  1. Research on Internal Flow Theory and Computational Fluid Dynamics of Fluid Machinery

  2. Control Technology of Fluid Machinery and Equipment

  3. Safety Assurance Technology of Fluid Machinery and Equipment

  4. Monitoring and Diagnosis of Fluid Machinery
